Writing Your About Me Page - Five Rules You Need To Know For Marketing
By Anita Bruton

The “About Me” Page is a powerful marketing tool when it is written, created and used correctly. The question is, how do you do it correctly?

Here are five rules to keep in mind as you write (or rewrite) your About Me page:

1. Your About Me page isn’t about YOU! Really, folks, I’m serious! People don’t care about you. It’s all about them. Do you know what they are thinking? “What’s in it for me?” They want to know what you can offer them and why should they go to you for your product or service. You want to promote the benefits of your products or services, not the features. Tell your reader what it is about YOU that makes you special and unique versus the other guy. What do you offer that the competition doesn’t? Is it one on one consultations, free email consults, a no questions asked guarantee?

2. Write as if you were talking to the reader face to face, over a cup of coffee and a burger at a local diner. In a way you are. This particular person has come to you for information about what you have to offer. They are checking you out. Be conversational in your writing. Don’t be overly formal, but be professional. Don” use jargon the average person won” understand. Explain things in layperson terms.

3. Include a picture of yourself. People relate to people. They love to put a face with the words. Make sure it’s a good quality picture. Make it friendly. Smile. Look approachable. Adding a picture to your About Me page will let people know that you are a real live human being just like them, not just some email address with an automated response system!

4. Write about you. I know I said earlier that the About Me page isn’t about you. However, you want to include some things about you to continue making yourself likable. Just don’t forget the real reason you are putting up this page!

5. Remember, the About Me page is a part of your personal or company profile. A profile has many uses as a marketing tool. Make sure you keep it professional and polished! If you need help writing your profile, ask a professional for help.
